Experience with Nexus in LAN Core

Hello,

I'm looking for thoughts, opinions, and experiences with opting to go with Nexus in the LAN core vs. a Catalyst 4500/6500/6800. Not concerned about FWSM/WISM modules or PoE - purely L3 routing, multicast rp, etc.

Thanks,

Chris

When you mention 'LAN Core' are you referring to something in your campus or the data centre?

It would be helpful to know where the switches will sit in your network and what features they will be responsible for.

If you do a quick google, there are plenty of discussions on 'catalyst vs nexus' but it entirely depends on your network, its not a definitive answer and it will depend.

Check out these for starters:

Thank you for your response.

Campus, not Data Center. I'm aware of their place in the DC. As I mentioned, these will be LAN core - that is where they will sit, and those are the services they will provide - L3 core, multicast rp., WAN routers, firewalls, server switch block aggregate.

I have seen those links in the past and they are helpful, I've done a good deal of searching but looking for a more robust and up to date conversation. Both solutions will work fine, it's a matter of just making the decision - that's where I'm at.

Regards,

CB
