We're looking at deploying AUTOCONF on the access switches of our campus LAN. I've lab tested it successfully on a 9200-48P and plan to configure it on one production switch as a next step. I've done some reading up on the feature, but mostly what I've been able to find is just the basic cisco doc on what it is and simple examples of how to use it. Here's what I have done so far:
1. Altered the existing IP_PHONE_INTERFACE_TEMPLATE template to match our specific needs
2. Created new templates for our access points, IP cameras, and unclassified devices.
3. Modified the parameter-map BUILTIN_DEVICE_TO_TEMPLATE to accommodate the template changes.
4. Disabled autoconf on the switch uplink ports and enabled it everywhere else.
My configuration correctly identified and applied templates for a workstation, an AP, and a phone (I don't have a camera handy for testing). All are online in our production network.
I'm Looking for some feedback. Does anyone out there have AUTOCONF up and running in a production environment? Are there significant downsides to using it?
