Howdy. I'm a beginner and I have purchased a used Cisco WS-C3560E-48PD , a discontinued model. I am attempting to flash it and have tried several different images from Cisco's Download page, all resulting in `ERROR: Image Family Mismatch`

When I run `sh version` it results in this:

Cisco IOS Software, C3560E Software (C3560E-IPBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(52)SE, REL EASE SOFTWARE (fc3)

ROM: Bootstrap program is C3560E boot loader
BOOTLDR: C3560E Boot Loader (C3560E-HBOOT-M) Version 12.2(44r)SE3, RELEASE SOFTW ARE (fc3)

switch1 uptime is 1 day, 5 hours, 0 minutes
System returned to ROM by power-on
System image file is "flash:/c3560e-ipbasek9-mz.122-52.SE.bin"

I managed to download c3560-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE3.tar from here, which I think is the correct image however I still get that error.

I've also tried:

  • c3560-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE12.tar
  • c3560e-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE13.tar
  • c3560e-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE10.tar
  • c3560e-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE8.tar
  • c3560e-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE7.tar

My method of doing this is with `archive download-sw /overwrite tftp://10.0.2.7/c3560-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE3.tar`

switch1#$overwrite tftp://10.0.2.7/c3560-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE3.tar
Loading c3560-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE3.tar from 10.0.2.7 (via Vlan1): !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[OK - 15042560 bytes]

Loading c3560-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE3.tar from 10.0.2.7 (via Vlan1): !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
examining image...
extracting info (106 bytes)
ERROR: Image family mismatch

Obviously, this is not going to work.  The image is meant for a 3560/3560G and the platform is a 3560E/3560X.

The correct image should be "c3560e-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE13.tar".

Please post the complete output to the following commands:

sh version
dir

Mohsin Alam

You are using incorrect image for the switch, type show inventory and copy the PID from there and then download correct image.
