Hi,
This is a simple question. I have 4948 switch but I don't know if I have any ports availabe to add an SFP module or whether they are all copper ethernet ports. How can I check what kind of ports are available as I don't have physical access to the switch.
Here's some info:
NAME: "Switch System", DESCR: "Cisco Systems, Inc. WS-C4948 1 slot switch "
PID: , VID: , SN:
NAME: "Linecard(slot 1)", DESCR: "10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45), 1000BaseX (SFP) Supervisor with 48 10/100/1000BASE-T p"
PID: WS-C4948 , VID: V06,
Thanks
Dan

Dan-
The last 4 ports (45-48) are dual personality; use can use the copper or the SFP port. If any of the ports are down, you can use an SFP in them.
Here's a picture for reference.

Hope that helps.

Dan,
One other suggestion I would have would be to perform the "show interface status" command to determine if the ports in question are in use/active/or have any SFPs plugged in.
See reference from a 3750.
Port Name Status Vlan Duplex Speed Type
Fa0/48 notconnect 1 auto auto 10/100BaseTX
Gi0/1 notconnect 1 auto auto Not Present
Hope this helps, rate if it does.
