Hello friends,
I was just curious about some points regarding WS-X6708-10G module. I hade two questions :
1/ Why when inserting such a card, MAC Out-of-Band Sync (OOB) is automatically enabled; and not for other DFC-equipped module ?
2/ Documentation says «Due to compatibility issues, the WS-X6708-10GE-3C/3CXL cannot be inserted in a Supervisor 2T system »
Is there a specific reason this WS-X6708-10G card (malabar?) is not upgradable with DFC4 whereas other 6704/6716/… are DFC4-upgradable ?
Thanks in advance!
Karim

Greetings Karim,
1) OOB sync is enabled when X6708 is present to workaround a hardware limitation in specific ASIC revisions which does not apply to other modules.
2) Another limitation prevents X6708 from being compatiable with DFC4 which is necessary to run in a Sup2-T system.
X6908 is the suggested upgrade path.
Hope this helps,
/Phil
