does anyone know what the recommended fix is?

%EARL-SW2_DFC2-1-EXCESSIVE_PARITY_ERROR: EARL 1: Parity error detected in VRAM

As I understand it we can upgrade one at a time and reboot them seperately

There is a bug associated with this error and IOS recommendation

CSCus64795

https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCus64795/?referring_site=bugquickviewclick

Since they are configured as VSS, you would need an outage window to load the new IOS, change the boot variable, save and reboot both as the same time. You can also use ISSU to upgrade  one at time but there are limitations.  If you go with option 1, 6807 (fully loaded) takes about 10 minutes to reboot.

We got the same error.

Hello,

the error message in the bug description is

>> %EARL-1-EXCESSIVE_PARITY_ERROR: EARL 0: Parity error detected in VRAM

Your error message is a little different.

>> %EARL-SW2_DFC2-1-EXCESSIVE_PARITY_ERROR: EARL 1: Parity error detected in VRAM

I wonder if you can have an hardware issue on a DFC daughter card.

Or it is a different bug fixed in a later release.

see the related bug

This last one is fixed in 15.5(1)SY1.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hello,

most times we can solve such problems by reloading only the affected linecard:

c6800#hw-module switch <switch> module <module> reset

This is much faster than reloading a VSS member- or standalone switch and has less impact.

Example:

%EARL-SW1_DFC2-1-EXCESSIVE_PARITY_ERROR: EARL 1: Parity error detected in VRAM

c6800#hw-module switch 1 module 2 reset

HTH

Rolf
