Hi everybody.
Standard hdlc does not have protocol field. Does it mean standard hdlc can not carry protocol payload such as ip,ipx etc?
If not then why did we came up with hdlc if it can not carry different protocols as its pay load?
thanks and have a great weekend.

Hello Sarah,
>> Does it mean standard hdlc can not carry protocol payload such as ip,ipx etc?
It means that standard HDLC misses the support of multiple upper layer protocol over the same point to point session.
So with standard HDLC a p2p link could carry only IPv4 packets EXOR IPX packets and so on.
Cisco HDLC is supported also on other vendor routers like Juniper
Hope to help
