HELP -- Can't Log Into a Catalyst 2960-S series switch

whitltj

HELP HELP HELP!!

I have reset the switch via the front mode button and power cycled it.  It connects to my PC or Mac and links.  Reset the LAN on the PC using DHCP and have tried several IP address configurations including the listed 10.0.0.1 and nothing seems to work.  TJW, Catalyst 2000I plan on adding 2 more switched similar in my home and doing fiber links to them to speed things up and cut down on bottle necks.  Can anyone please try to help be log into the console and be able to configure it and manage it.  I am at a loss.  I have ordered a console cable and DB9 adapter but will take a week or so to get it all in place.

HELP!

Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi
yes thats the default address 10.0.0.1 /24 , are you on the same subnet , can you ping it even if you cant http to it ?
is your pc on dhcp or static , did you set static ip in same range ?

you need a cable to get onto the actual console port , if the web gui is not working you need to get into the switch and confirm the configuration in place and that the files are still in flash that allow you have WEB GUI access

standard GUI access
https://www.vtkt.ru/upload/iblock/7ed/Cisco_2960L_UG.pdf

I tried to ping and I am not able to ping the default IP address.  I have no clue what could be in it.  I have reset the unit more than one time and still same results.  My Pc is setup with DHCP as per the instructions.  It links to each with a network cable.  I use explorer to try to reach it and nothing works.I am thinking that I will have to go in through the console port with a cable and USB adapter to see what I can do.  Kinda clueless as to working with the command line interface.

Sure you need to connect console and look at the bootlogs what exactly happend after reset

i am guessing it gone to ROMMON Mode.

you see when you connect console

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Ye agree your either in ROMMON mode and it needs a quick boot command to restart or the GUI files got wiped on reset and needs to be reloaded

It can be fixed easy enough just need a console cable to get into cli mode

I have tried to connect using a USB cable to the console port and I am able to see the boot script process.  I have tried to setup port 1 with a IP on my network and my subnet mask.  Still not result.  FYI I have nothing connected to the switch other than a network cable to my laptop and the USB cable to laptop from the console USB port.  This smart little box is about making me feel like an idiot.  LOL.  Guess there is something just not set correctly.  I did see something about it being set to subnet 255.255.255.255 but not positive.  Almost ready to scream HELP and connect via Remote and keep the USB connected and load a terminal program and let someone take control and fix this bad boy.  I have another one coming and plan on a fiber link between the two but I got to get this one going first.

If you have console connected,

post your output of  "show running " to look

Switch config looks ok, if you looking to do express setup then follow below quick setup guide

https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960/hardware/quick/guide_stack/All_languages/2960S_gsg_en.pdf

Page 6 resetting the switch to make express setup (page 28).

keep the console connected and let us know how it goes.

If you do not like to get in to express, you can configure from console switch IP address for VLAN 1 ( as per your setup).

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Thanks so much for the help.  I read the directions more clearly and found my issue.  Now I am trying to get the FSP+ modules to show up or connect between switches.  They don't appear to be showing up or I have not connection.

Not sure if I understand correctly the problem here.

Did you get right SFP now?

Explain more information and show us the configuration of the device, along with below commands

show interface gi 0/0 trans detail  << interface name to be what you looking to work)
