hi all

how to select the best among types switches, routers ?

I would to select of the best between two type of switches and another two type routers .

- compare between switch cisco 1900 ,2940,2948

-compare between routers cisco 2501 and 2620

so please any help to support me by documents as PDF to make comparison .

Hi,

It all depends on your requirement.  For example: 2501 has a 10mb interface and 2620 has a 10/100 interface, but they are both end of life.

Is this for lab or for production?

How many user?

what type of connection?

What size network?

and most importantly, how much is the budget?

There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all when you are dealing with technology like this.  Question you should ask yourself is "What are you trying to acheive".  Another appropriate question is "What is your budget?".

I am not a Specialist Network Engineering. And I try to collect sufficient information to make decision to in resolving the case study .

please see the attach file as sample JPG to understand the problem .

- (A) i have 6 workstations connected to with cable 100baseT with hub , there is a server connected with that hub with 100baseT

- (B) there is another 6 workstations connected to with cable 100baseT with hub .

- there is a router connected with first topology (A) with cable 100 baseT.

- and another router connected with second topology (B) with cable 100 baseT .

- both router connected together with T1 link .

The requirements : Change both hubs with switches , and i have two type of switches cisco (1900,2948) and i would to select one of them .

and also the same in routers i would to change it , i have two type routers cisco (2501,2620) and i would to select on of them .

If I get the specifications as PDF file I will select what is appropriate for me to case study

Just want to let you know that both are end-of-sale/end-of-life.  The 2948G is CatOS while the 1900 is menu-driven.  Depending on the load of your PCs and if I have to make a choice (reluctantly), I'd go with the 2948G.

Good grief!  Where shop did you get your gear from????  I don't want to make a choice of either one.  The least-of-all-evil will have to be the 2620.

As I noted before, 2600 and 2500 routers are end of life.

For this design, you can simply use 2 Cisco 2960 switches and 2 Cisco 2811 routers with proper WAN cards.

Sorry to hi-jack Leo and Reza, but this sounds like a project for school. Your efforts are better spent towards people that need help with production networks!

ronaldo2010: Google Cisco 2600 data sheet and you will find what you're looking for. Do the same for the other models.
