249856K/12288K bytes of memory available.
I am using OSPF. What are the guidelines, if any.

Hi,
I don't think that there is a maximum allowed number of VRFs, i think it would be a function of the platform and memory.
But remember one thing, you can't have more than 30 OSPF process on a router, accordingly the maximum number of VRFs running OSPF would be 30 (router ospf id vrf vrf_name).
HTH, please rate if it does help,
Mohammed Mahmoud.

Mohammed,
The restriction on the number of OSPF processes has been removed in 12.3T.
Hope this helps,

Hi Harold,
Thank you for the update, what would be the maximum number now (i think that it was related to the maximum number of routing processes that can run on a single router).

Mohammed Mahmoud.

Mohammed,
You are correct, the limitation was due to the maximum number of Process Data Block (PDB) that could exist in IOS and the fact that each OSPF VRF instance was using a separate PDB. The PDB is an internal IOS structure just as the IDB is.
The limit of 32 PDBs is still there but now all the OSPF VRF instances are link to the same PDB, although they run as separate processes.
The limit now is purely related to resources (memory, processor, etc) available on a given device.
Hope this helps,

Hi Harold,
Thank you for this nice info, this kind of info is not available in books.
BR,
Mohammed Mahmoud.

Mohammed,
You are very welcome. You are correct about the fact that some of that information can't be found in any book. It would take too big of a book ;-)
Have a great weekend,
