I have two companies co-locating and to cut costs would like to implement just one Cisco WLC and separate the traffic with VLANs. I see that the Cisco WLC 2500 series controllers support min number of WLAN: 5 and max: 75. What does this actually mean? When I create more than 3 WLAN on one controller, the best practices page advises me against using more than 3 WLAN. Is it okay to have more than 3 WLANs, and what are the penalties of doing so?

5 and 75 are the count of light weight access points WLC can support.
By default, 2504 can handle upto 5 access points. You can increase this count upto 75 by adding new license.
Also it can support upto 16 different WLANs(SSID)
