I have a WS-C3560-24TS switch booting from c3560-ipbase-mz.122-25.SEB4.bin file but I do not have the ability to ssh to the device. I want to upgrade to c3560-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE10.bin but if I do so I'll only have 13718528 bytes free in flash. After I confirm that the switch is operating properly I can always delete the old .bin file in flash that it was booting from previously, but that isn't really going to free up much space. My question is will 13718528 bytes free in flash be enough? The switch configuration is pretty basic, it doesn't do much other than pass traffic, and I just want the ipbase9 file so I can ssh into it instead of telnet.

Lets assume that you have 13 MB free with both images loaded. The older 12.2.25 should be about 5 or 6 MB in size (roughly guessed). If you delete the old image you have a minimum of 18 MB free. That's even enough to load also the newest 15.0 image which is about 16 MB.
I don't see any problem with your plan.

Based on the Cisco Download-page, the new image is only 11 MB in size. That should work that you load it to flash, test the new image and remove the old one afterwards.

Thanks, Karsten. To clarify a little...I'll have about 13 MB in flash AFTER I download the 11 MB c3560-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE10.bin file. I'm just wondering if I begin booting from this new image, and generate a crypto key, is there any downside to only having 13 MB free in flash. I guess that one concern I would have is that if I needed to upgrade to a newer IOS version in the future, and it was larger than 13 MB, would I not be able to download it to flash because I don't have enough room. I guess there is a possibility that I could overwrite the old IOS in flash immediately, but that wouldn't be ideal because I would want to revert to the old IOS if the new one wasn't working correctly. Do you know if I can do a memory upgrade on a WS-C3560-24TS switch? I suspect that I can't but I don't know for sure.
