hi all

our topology is that, core is 6500 which one port set vlan and directly use one 1G utp cable (only one cable)connect to 2960s-48T on each floor.

there are one 2960S-48T and four 2960-24T  on each floor.

how to connect the switches ?

a. one to one

n5k->2960s-48t->2960-24t->2960-24t->2960-24t

b. one to many

n5k->2960s-48t->2960-24t

                         ->2960-24t

                          ->2960-24t

                          ->2960-24t

thanks

I would connect each 2960 to the 6500 if you had enough ports on the 6500.  In my opinion if you connected each 2960 to each other with only one connected to the core, unless its the last 2960 that fails, all other switches are unable to reach to the Core.

Hi,

A good  design connect all access switches (2960S) to the Core/Distribution switch (6500) if the distance between 2960S and 6500 is more than 100 mts you have to change UTP uplink for MMF fiber uplink at least.

You will have best performance, more features for layer 2 and 3 are more easy to implement, and troubleshooting is more easy.

Regards.
