HSRP or VRRP on cisco catalyst 3650

hi everyone,

i have cisco catalyst 3650-24ts-s switch i wanted to create a redundancy using HSRP or VRRP.

but i am confuse which protocol to use ? are this two protocol supported in this switch ?

according to the following thread both protocols are supported but you cannot use both in different Vlans

Either you use HSRP everywhere exor you use VRRP everywhere.

If both protocols are supported (as Giuseppe believes), then you might consider using HSRP for Cisco only equipment, but if you're going to have a mixed hardware environment, your choice likely is "forced" to use VRRP.

BTW, as to which protocol is "better", that depends on your FHRP requirements, but I would give the edge to HSRP, if for no other reasons then its later variants features, HSRP V2 and mHSRP (and perhaps also GLBP).

I prefer to have HSRP here if only cisco devices involved. ( again your choice).

we have multiple VLAN . is HSRP can run on VLAN interface instead of physical interface

sure ( make sure the VLAN/SVI streched across device so they can see each other).
