Hi,
Is it supported to have a HWIC-1GE-SFP with GLC-EX-SMD ? I have 12km to covert in gigabit over an SMF fiber.
or do I have to ordered GLC-ZX-SM ?
Many thanks in advance
Olivier

Hi Olivier
You can use either one. GLC-ZX-SM is up to 100km and GLC-EX-SMD is up to 40km
have a look at table-2 in this link:

Hi,
Sorry Reza but it's clearly writen than GLC-EX-SMD with HWIC-1GE-SFP are compatible.
I would like to use it on a Cisco 2921.
Best Regards

Hi Oliver,
You are correct that the SMD is supported. The question is not that. The question you should be wary about is the STRENGTH of the laser to travel that short distance is too strong. You will wind up either burning either ends of the SFP module or getting packet drops.

Hi Leolaohoo
So it's better to use GLC-LX-SM ?

Heck yes!
Otherwise, you need attenuators. Not just any attenuators. You need the RIGHT kind of attenuators with a fixed amount of number.
Plus do you know how much cheaper is an LX compared to an SMD?
