I have connected this particular 4510R switch to other access swtiches in ring topology.
To complete this ring, i have connected one 10G of SUP-1 in slot 1 i.e 1/1 and another link on 2/1 on SUP-2 to complet Ring topology.
But whenever i check show interface status, it shows 10G 2/1 port is inactive. by defualt this port should be in Active state.
Please guide me what will b the problem. or wat shud i do in this scenario.

Are you connecting both ports from the 4500 to the same access switch using Etherchannel or multiple switches?
What is the topology?
08-29-2011 02:41 AM
there are four switches in Ring Topology....starts with 4510R and ends with 4520R...
From where it starts tat is connected on SUP-1 V-10GE port number 1/1 and Ring completes with SUP-2 V-10GE on port 2/1.
In this case 2/1 should be active as per my knowledge but its showing inactvie

Nilesh,
Prior to Cisco Release 12.2(25)SG, the Cisco Catalyst 4500
Supervisor Engine V-10GE allowed you to enable either the dual
wire-speed 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports, or four alternatively wired
Gigabit Ethernet SFP uplink ports. With Cisco Release 12.2(25)SG, you
can simultaneously deploy the dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports and the
four Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports. This capability is supported on the
Catalyst 4503, Catalyst 4506, and Catalyst 4507R chassis.
When deploying a Catalyst 4510R chassis, one of three configurations is
supported:
* Enable the dual 10 -Gigabit Ethernet ports (X2 optics) only.
*Enable the four Gigabit Ethernet ports (SFP optics) only.
*Enable both the dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet and the four Gigabit Ethernet
ports, with the understanding that the tenth slot (Flex-Slot) will only
support a 2-port gigabit interface converter (GBIC) line card
(WS-X4302-GB) when in this mode.
Do you have the gig ports enabled as well?
The command hw-module uplink select is required to activate the links.
Below is the cisco link which explains the above statements

Thanks Amit,
My current IOS is Version 12.2(31)SGA10. Does this IOS supports as you said earlier...
If i do not use "hw-module uplink select", i think it should not show inactive because by default two 10GE in dual sup shows active.
or i will have to use above command in current IOS.
