I'm trying to connect a modem to the console port of a Cisco 2960 and 3750. The modem answers but I can't get a prompt.
When I connect the same modem to the Aux port of a 2600 router it works straight away.
I've tried US Robotics and Multitech modems without any success.
Has anyone else tried this? because help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
As you said with the aux port it is ok but the console port to my best knowledge is not meant to be connected to a modem but to a serial interface on a host running a terminal emulator.
if it's possible then you'll have to modify baud rate of console with the config-register command anyway.

Hi,
Wow I didn't know about this, I'm happy I've learnt something new but what is the use of such a configuration as the aux port serves this purpose?
Regards.
Alain.

We always use the console port using Robotics password protected modems. It should work fine if you have the correct adapters and cables. The reason we use the console is so you can watch a unit boot , if you use the Aux port you dont see anything until the unit is completely booted up .

Goes back to the CAT switch days:
here is the critical line in Alexs link
Cisco Catalyst switches do not have AUX ports.
Caused beaucoup grief. Now I'll have nightmares of the Cat1900 menu screen in my head.
