We have several IE-3300-8U2X rugged switches. I am trying to find if these can convert to install mode and use the packages.conf as the boot variable. I am having no luck finding information on this subject. 'show ver', does not indicate bundle or install mode. Is this a limitation of this small compact switch?

IE3k can operate in Install or Bundle Mode.
We have several hundred of them in Install Mode.

This doc has reference to install mode.

I did see that document, but it did not seem to explicitly state that using the 'install add file' command will convert to install mode. I did not want to make any assumptions and end up dumping the switch.
I guess the assumption is to change the boot variable to packages.conf and then proceed to use the 'install add file..." command.

Converting, from Bundle Mode, to Install Mode and upgrading the firmware (in Install Mode) have several methods. Which method to choose (or use) will depend entirely on the question of WHEN to reboot the switch. If the answer is "reboot the switch NOW" then follow the instructions in the Release Notes.
If the answer is "reboot the switch at a later date/time", then I have a method called One-Hit-Wonder.
