Does the IE3010 model switch support profinet?  If so, how do you enable it on the switch?

Hello phaines@usg.com ,

according to the datasheet it supports PROFINET for management purposes

>>"The Cisco IE 3000 can be managed by PROFINET based management tools. The IE 3000 has PROFINET v2 certification, with PROFINET conformance class B compliance. The IE3000 supports PROFINET QoS on PROFINET default VLAN to prioritize PROFINET real time packets"

see

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/industrial-ethernet-3000-series-switches/data_sheet_c78-440930.html?dtid=osscdc000283

Here it is a link to configuration guide

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/cisco_ie3010/software/release/15-2_2_e/configuration/guide/SwCfg.html?dtid=osscdc000283

but I couldn't find a chapter about PROFINET configuration.

The support should be limited to management purposes so I don't know if this is what you are looking for.

Edit:

see the following thread

https://community.cisco.com/t5/industrial-networking/profinet-and-ie4000-ie5000/m-p/3746505

by default Profinet vlan = vlan 1 it makes sense.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

What is PROFINET? PROFINET is an industrial communication network designed for robust, deterministic data transmission in the harsh conditions of factory and process environments. It is built on Industrial Ethernet which is built on Ethernet.

PROFINET uses all four of the Internet model layers. It uses TCP/IP for configuration and diagnostics and skips TCP/IP for real time data (using layers 1, 2, and 7 of the 7-layer model).

1) As such the switch will at least process Profinet/Ethernet packets and forward then within a VLAN (L2 communication)
2) So Profinet do NOT use Layer-3 (routing)
=> conclusion:  If you do not need to forward Profinet packets between routed subnets you are good to go within a single VLAN.

but be sure to read this post:that says the IE 3010 dos not know the profinet command as the IE2000/3000 do.

Beginning with Cisco IOS software release 12.2(52)SE, PROFINET is enabled by default on all the base
switch module and expansion-unit Ethernet ports.

the document is specific for the 3000 not the 3010,

but document above reads with higher IOS version yo do not need to enable Profinet anymore.
