Hello, I notice on some switches that there can be a high amount of 'Total output drops'  but '0 output errors'.

Then on other switches 'output errors' includes the figures from 'Total output drops'.

is this simply due to different behaviour amongst IOS versions ?

Hi,

Could you please share the switch models? Are you seeing the same output drops and output errors on a 3850/3650?

These counters should not increment simultaneously, please take a look at the following bug for 3850 platform:

CSCvb65304: Output drops and Output errors increment simultaneously in show interfaces (https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCvb65304/?reffering_site=dumpcr )

Hi ,

The main difference between the two is

Output drops are caused by a congested interface. For example, the traffic rate on the outgoing interface cannot accept all packets that should be sent out.

Output Errors:

Gives the sum of all errors that prevented the final transmission of datagrams out of the interface being examined.

Hope it Helps..
