Intermittent Issue

Hi,

My network consists of 2 sites (A & B). Both sites each have 2 units of Cisco 6506 switches. Between Core1 & Core 2 both  are running HSRP.

All the active gateways are at Core 1 & standby at Core 2. Both sites are connected via DWDM which physically connected only to both Core 2 switches via Vlan X. There are no hsrp for this vlan X. All routes are learned via EIGRP.

Lately, User from site A finding intermittent accessing servers at Site B.

The traceroute seems to be very weird.

When i can ping the server at B - traceroute reach the remote site B.It look like below.

User PC at Site A reach C1 (user gateway)  then  site A C2 (hsrp standby gateway) then to Site B C2 ( vlan X )  last Site B C1 (server gateway)

When i cant ping the server at B - traceroute does not even reach the Site A  C2, it stop at C1 gateway or even sometime it *** from User PC.

It look like it lost the routes for a moment.

But when i checked the routing its always there and tracing between Core Switches from Site A user gateway to the site B server gateway, there are no intermittent.

What could cause this issue?

Thank You.

Hi,

Are you having this problem with a single PC or with all of them? Also, can you please specify where the PCs that are having the problem are physically connected, Core1 or Core2 ?

Can you post the ARP table and mac address table from the two Cores when the problem is happening? I am particularly interested in the entries for the host that has the problem.

While the host cannot access the servers can you confirm that Core1 host GW can ping the  Core1 server GW ?

Best regards,

Adrian
