IOS-XE 16.9.4 and ipservices license in evaluation mode

Hi all,

I need to upgrade a 3850 running ipservices/permanent from 16.3.x to 16.9.4 but this stack won't be able to contact a CSSM server for now.

Can ipservices be run in Evaluation Mode for 90 days with full capabilities?

Output of "sh license right-to-use" is:

Slot# License Name Type Count Period left
-------------------------------------------------------
    1 ipservices permanent N/A Lifetime
    2 ipservices permanent N/A Lifetime
License Level on Reboot: ipservices

Many thanks!
Fed

Hello Fed,

Please note that while upgrading 3850 to 16.9.X, Smart Licensing is the default and only license management solution; all licenses are managed as Smart Licenses. So, when after upgrading code 16.9.X standard license requires migration to Smart license. You can find this in the release notes as well: Note: Starting from Cisco IOS XE Fuji 16.9.1, the Right-To-Use (RTU) licensing mode is deprecated, and the associated license right-to-use command is no longer available on the CLI. This license conversion could be a part of the IOS upgrade activity so I would suggest you plan it accordingly.

Regards,

Priyanka

Many thanks Priyanka,

I was aware of that. But you haven't answered my question.

Yes, eval mode would work at reboot (ipservices).

Hello Fed,

Can ipservices be run in Evaluation Mode for 90 days with full capabilities?

Yes, it will.

When you upgrade to 16.9.4, switches will silently activate EVALUATION mode, which will be valid for the next 90 days, but then, if you do not configure Smart Licensing you automatically go into non-compliance state. So, keep this in mind and plan carefully.

Priyanka
