interface Vlan3

(7addresses are alowed192.168.1.5-1.12)
interface Vlan4

ip address 192.168.1.128 255.255.255.128
**127 arredsses are allowed
192.168.1.128 - 254
My question is ,
1)if ip address 192.168.1.253 255.255.255.128
how amny addreses are allowed and what are those???(only 254 or ??)
2)ip address192.168.1.253 255.255.255.0 -If one asign IP for vlan 10,will it clash with other vlans.??

Hi,
1) ip address 192.168.1.253 255.255.255.128
so subnet is 192.168.1.128 and hosts go from 192.168.1.129 to 192.168.1.254 so 127 addresses as the /25 suggests
2)ip address192.168.1.253 255.255.255.0 -If one asign IP for vlan 10,will it clash with other vlans.??
yes it will overlap with other vlans because here addresses go from 192.168.1 .1 to 192.168.1.254.
all masks greater than /24 are subnets of /24

Thanks
what I asked was,The ip address range will go from 192.168.1.128 to 192.168.1.254.That means the range is not as follows,
192.168.1.253
192.168.1.254
192.168.1.1
192.168.1.2
.192.168.1.3
..
....
...
192.168.1.126
??

If the range goes from .128 to .254 then the addresses are from .129 to .254

Thanks a lot,
But pls have a look on the folllowing senario,
if
vlan 10
ip address 192.168.1.12 255.255.255.248
this has 7 ips alright?
are those--192.168.1.13 to 192.168.1.18
OR
192.168.1.12. to 192.168.1.6(back ward) ????
Thanks

192.168.1.12 255.255.255.248
255-248=8 is subnet increment so the range is 192.168.1.9 to 192.168.1.14 included for IP addresses.
192.168.8 is subnet and 192.168.1.15 is broadcast.
Regards.
Alain.
