IP Phones and Hubs

I have found that connecting a PC to a n IP Phone through a Hub causes the PC to be very slow connecting to anything on the network and often goes off line. Without the Hub it is fine. Also without the IP phone the Hub works fine. What would cause this and are there recommended Hubs to use with a Cisco 7960 series IP Phone? Any info would be a great help. Thanks.

You should NEVER use a hub to daisy chain a PC via a phone. Use only switches. As best practice phones get assigned to a seperate voice VLAN and the PC to a data VLAN, allowing to diffrianciate (trust, prioritize) voice packets. The slow perfromance is cause by collisions and half duplex operation.

Hi Chris,

I think u r ablsolutely right and there is no option other than this except connect the pc to the Ip phone which is available in some cisco models like 7940, 7960 models.

Thanks
