I have a cisco 4506 working as access layer switch (only desktops and phones are connected to that). When i try to execute "auto qos voip cisco-phone" command to enable qos on the swicth ports, the switch generated the below error message.
the policy AutoQos-VoIP-Input-Cos-Policy cannot be attached to the interface Gi3/1 since it has 'set' actions. IP Routing and CEF Switching are required for 'set' actions to be effective. Please enable IP routing and CEF switching.
AutoQoS Error: the following generated command was not properly applied:
service-policy input AutoQos-VoIP-Input-Cos-Policy
auto qos error while generating commands on g3/1
I don't know the relation between ip routing, cef and qos. i can enable them, but want to check the impact before that. Currently the switch is configured as VTP client and operating in L2 mode though it is L3 by design.
Thanks,
Sridhar

If you only enable routing, you shouldn't see much of a behavior difference except for if you're using a default-gateway you'll likely need to change that to use a default route.

Joe is correct , you need ip routing turned on to run QOS commands . You will have to use a static default route for the management address which points to your current ip default gateway statement . You can then get rid of the ip default gateway statement.
