On a 6500 series switch how would a service provider ensure customers always use the correct ip address on a shared subnet without knowing their mac and without using dhcp? Is that even possible?

Hi!
Usually, CE (customer edge) devices are owned by the SP so they know all that information, also, customer is not permitted to touch those configurations.
And well, they do claim themselves as gateways so even if you could change your address I think there would be no point.
Maybe I did not understand the question correctly though.
Hope it helps, best regards!

we tried something similar a while back and from what I remember it is very difficult to do this, we have a similar set-up with customer using a shared subnet.
you can get in the position of the port shutting down but an arp request still gets through so could still cause some issues.
