IPv6 HSRP Implementation on IOS-XR 4.2.1

Hi all,

I'm looking to try and implement ipv6 HSRP on a series of IOS-XR Routers running 4.2.1 following on from successfully setting up IPv6 HSRP on a few cat6509s on VLAN Interfaces in other parts of the network.

I have entered the "router hsrp" configuration menu and gone into the interface in question that I'm looking to setup with IPv6 HSRP. Unfortunately, there version 2 or address-family ipv6 commands are not available.

Am I missing something or is this a limitation on the IOS-XR version 4.2.1?

Thanks in advance,

Mick

Hi,

There is a reference guide for this release and I don't see any ipv6 commands within the hsrp section. Might not be supported, though. There is a guide which can be found in the 2nd link that describes the HSRP ipv6 config for the IOS image. Maybe you can configure it that way

Thanks Nathanael for the response here.

You're absolutely correct, IPv6 HSRP is not currently supported in any image pre 4.3.0 (which is not due for release for a couple of weeks I'm told.

A workaround that I implemented instead is IPv6 VRRP. Works just fine so no big deal thankfully. Good to know too that this is a restriction on the version of code running.
