Hi all

we seem to have an issue with one of our 3850-24XU switches, it is running ver 03.07.05.E.152-3.E5

The switch said switch 1 has been remofed from the stack, when I consoled into it, it was stuck at rommon, when I booted it, it came up with the below

Start type: SRV_OPTION_RESTART_STATELESS (23)
Death reason: SYSMGR_DEATH_REASON_FAILURE_SIGNAL (2)
Last heartbeat 0.00 secs ago

PID: 6268
Exit code: signal 6

CWD: /var/sysmgr/work

PID: 6268
UUID: 3005
get_local: failed: No such file or directory

With an error message like that, I'd say, yes.

Is it still failed in rommon or is it eventually booting up

Theres a doc to recover failed 3850s

section

Recover from a 3850 Series Switch Boot Failure

Hi Mark

It tries to boot up but keeps going into a loop then gives up and goes back to rommon.

My first question is why has it failed twice in one week?

Do you think its bad hardware?

we have 5 other stacks running the same software and they are fine.

Cheers

Could be corrupt/missing files in flash, Suggest look through that document Mark provided seems to provide possible workarounds

Carl,
Organize for an RMA.

Hi

Does this sound like a hardware issue?

Many thanks

if it wont take a new image in rommon and boot then i would RMA it , especially that it failed twice in space of week

Hi

what do you mean by won't take a new image in rommon?

I have not tried copying a new image to it as yet, should I try that first?

cheers

it maybe hardware as Leo said or could have just totally corrupted the image in flash and wont boot it right , if there is another image in its flash you could try boot that from rommon instead or try and boot the switch from USB as another option bypassing local flash

There 2 things id try , if they fail to get it working i would RMA it

TAC may get you to try a method anyway before rebooting
