Have a look at the flash on the device that is rebooting and look for crash files. Also, you may want to look at the syslog server (if you have any configured) and see if there is any indication of a specific problem before the reboot happens.

In addition to what Reza has recommended, post the complete output to the the command "sh version".

Thanks for your reply

Thanks for posting this output. It does show quite a few crashinfo files, which indicates quite a few crashes. And this output from show ver confirms that there is a software problem with this switch

System returned to ROM by s/w reset

In the original post you indicate that you have been advised to update the software. I would say that was good advise. Do you have a maintenance contract to enable you to obtain updated software?

Hi Rick

thanks for your reply

we do have maintance contract but they are dragging there feet as this has been going on for a while.

they wanted the modular switch model and supervisor,

but as said they are taking ages coming back to me,

Regards

It certainly has been going on for a while. The output shows that it goes back to Sep 23 2009. And the frequency of the issue seems to have increased. It certainly looks like a software issue and that a software upgrade is indicated. I am not sure who is dragging their feet or why. But I suggest that you continue to work with them and to supply the information that they request. I can understand asking for the switch model number and supervisor as these are important in making sure that you get the correct image for your switch. I hope that you do get the newer software and that installing it will resolve this issue. Please keep us updated on what happens.

The version of IOS you are running (12.2(33)SXH2a) is 10 years old. Work with TAC to upgrade. Since you have an E chassis, it should not be an issue. Just make sure TAC knows about the modules you have in the chassis.

thanks all for your advise just waiting for our support partner to come back to me,
