Issues with LACP. Help!

Hi,

I'm new to the forum so please excuse me if I missed similar threads, but I couldn't find anything that would help me answer the question.

So here it is, we have a network with a switch (pseudo core) connected among other devices to a few key servers. Each server has a dual NIC config with teaming enabled. Both the switch and the server have LACP configured. Both sides have it "ON". Spanning tree is disabled.

Yesterday, one of the servers got rebooted and that caused a huge broadcast storm and other connectivity issues. I'm trying to identify the cause of the problem. When it comes to networking, I am a newbie. So, please help....

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Your problem is because "on" is a forced non-negotiated "on".  You can therefore get situations where one side thinks it is bundling and the other does not, which can lead to loops.  Certainly on the switch side you need "active" or "passive", preferably "active".

I don't know about the syntax on your servers, but you do need to enable the LAPC.  It could be that on the server, when it says "on" it actually means active negotiation.  You will have to see in the documentation.

Hope this helps.
