LAN Design advice

Hi there I am designing a small network with redundancy in the access, distribution and core layers. I have no problems designin a switchiing infrastructure (I believe...) but I'm not too sure if my HSRP design for the router where I have WAN redundancy will shock someone here... I hope not....

basically here are the hardware used: 2 x Catalyst 2960, 2 x Catalyst 3750, 2 x 3945 and 2 x HWIC-4ESW.

We don't want to put a switch between the two router to set up HSRP. we spent extra money with dual power supply for the L3 switches and routers therefore I set up HSRP in a way that the multicast goes trough the Distribution layer.I also had to use the L2 HWIC-4ESW modules because the routers don't have enough ports and we had a bunch of these modules laying around.

Question: Is this an acceptable design? surely it does not follow cisco documentation as I have connected the distribution switches to L2 interfaces in the router... Do you guys always go by the book? please give your thoughts??

Cheers,

Fabio

In my humble opinion, HSRP for the two routers is a no-brainer.  You need to.  HSRP between the 3750 when they are in the same rack does not make any sense.

I don't get it.

You have two 3750X but you are not stacking them.  If you haven't purchased the 2960 then I'd recommend that you use the 2960S and stack them together and link them (using EtherChannel) to the stacked 3750X.

Good point about stacking the 3750s....

What do you think about the HSRP design for the WAN?

Thank you very much for getting back to me. I'll take that you would use dynamic and static routing between the routers for redundancy...
