Hi,
I am new to setting up link aggregation and I currently have a Cisco SG300 switch and a Dell 2650 server which has 2 nics that support link aggregation. My switches (1 SG300 and 3 2960's) currently have 3 vlans and I would like to aggregate the two nics on the server so that they can communicate with other devices on the network that are in Vlan 1. I've made several attempts to get this to work but no success.
So here's what I did and the results:
Because I only have traffic from one vlan (vlan 1) going to the server, I created a NIC Team and created a vlan (VLan 1) and untagged it.
On the SG300 I configured my LAG by assigning the member ports. Then, under VLAN interface Settings I put the LAG into Acces mode and then I assigned the LAG to VLAN 1 under the Vlan to Port menu. Is this right? Did I do everything I was supposed to do? Because....
I GOT SOME BIZARRE NETWORK BEHAVIOR AFTER THIS...
Some computers could ping the NIC TEAM and some could not even though all computers belong to the same VLAN. Also, computers that could and could not ping the Link Aggregated Server were plugged into the same switch as the Server (SG300) and there were other computers that could and could not ping the Server plugged into other switches (2960's).
The Server itself could ping the management IPs of the other switches, but after I rebooted the Server (this is the real weird part) everything got reversed (computers that could ping the Server now could not, and computers that could not ping the Server now could). Strange.
As soon as I unplugged the connection to one of the NICs on the Server everything worked fine (without Link Aggregation of course). Can anyone make sense of this? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
