Hello,
I have a lot of diffrent 2960 models installed, and I would like to know, in case a problem occurs, if I can replace a failed switch with another 2960 which is a bit diffrent ? for example...
- replacing a WS-C2960L-24PS-LL by a WS-C2960L-48PS-LL
- replacing a WS-C2960L-24PS-LL by a WS-C2960X-24PS-L
thanks a lot

I forgot to tell, my real question is "does it work to reload the config from the failed switch to the replacement switch, if the replacement switch is a diffrent model and/or as more ports?"

Well, half the ports won't work.
The most important thing is to backup the configuration regularly and the uplink port(s) must be consistent.

That's an "it depends" answer. Additional ports wouldn't be configured, but different switch models, even in same or related series, can have slightly different hardware assignments. Further, even for an identical switch model, unless the installed IOS is exactly the same version and feature set (and license?), you might bump into other configuration differences.
Usually the differences are minor, and another similar device configuration makes a great starting point.
