Log message: ENVIRONMENT-3-RPS_FAILED

Hi,

I'm getting this message in the log of a Cisco 2950T-24 (Version 12.1(22)EA14):  %ENVIRONMENT-3-RPS_FAILED: Faulty internal power supply detected.

sh env all

FAN is OK
Internal POWER supply is FAULTY
RPS is NOT present

I read that if no RPS is present this is a cosmetic bug but I'm not sure if this is correct. In spite of the log message, the switch is working fine. Is it a serious problem? Should I use another switch?

Hi

if the internal power supply on a 2950 was not working switch would not even boot as there not power redundant  , so I wouldn't worry about it from experience , there are still cosmetic bugs like this even on the newer platforms with ios-xe reporting irregular findings on some 3650 and 3850s

If switch has power and is up without issue I would just ignore it , if its flooding your logs/syslog you could use logging discriminator to remove it so it doesn't fill up the buffer
