MAC-address "forwarding"?

Hi,

I'm currently configuring a home network which involves a Cisco C880 Router, an SG300-20, two SG300-10's and 4 aironet 1141 AP's. Everything is working accordingly except I have one problem. attached to the SG300-10's are Belgium's Telenet Digicorder (for HDTV), and in order for them to get an IP, Telenet issues their IP's based on their MAC-address. Which essentially means you can't put a switch in between, you have to connect them to the Telenet modem itself. The cabling is already in place so a new cable from the TV to the router modem is not an option (along with the digicorder there will also be an Apple TV and other devices, so a switch is the only option). I've heard there's a way of forwarding the MAC address from the digicorder so i can put in a seperate VLAN for the address. Does anyone know about this?

Why couldn't you put a L2 switch in between? of course you can as the switch won't interfere with the MAC address of the

Digicorder.

i can't put one in between now, the modem is connected to the router, then SG300-20, then SG300-10 and then the digicorder

they are getting their IP address from DHCP based on MAC , is that so? and if you connect to modem it is ok ?

But when connected to router it is not anymore? Can you provide a topology map with IP addresses and roles of devices like are they doing routing, are they bridged. Is the modem the DHCP server for these?

Dear Alain,

I've made a little schema which i hope makes things clearer.

IP  addresses are dynamic, but in order for the digicorder to get it's  (public) IP, it's also MAC based for that device. It's so ridiculous...  And it's impossible to statically assign an IP.

Hi Floris,

so your router is doing routing and NAT and your end devices as well as Digicorders are on access ports on the L2 switches ?

Can you provide config of the router.
