Messages: SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION

Hi Folks,

I have new switch CISCO WS-C4510R-E with SUP6-E. I am getting following messages on my console.

*Jan 27 03:04:08.515: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te5/2: Tx power low alarm; Operating value: -40.0 dBm, Threshold value: -11.3 dBm.
*Jan 27 03:04:09.707: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te6/2: Tx power low alarm; Operating value: -40.0 dBm, Threshold value: -11.3 dBm.

What is wrong with my power or something. Below pasted show power and show power modules out put.Do I need to contact TAC? any help is highly appricated.

Hi,

It looks like you are hitting bug CSCth08212.  

Bug Details:
Symptom:
If a X2 or SFP is in the inactive uplink ports of a Supervisor V-10GE,
Supervisor II+10GE, Supervisor 6-E or Supervisor 6-LE, it may cause
threshold violations to be reported once every 10 minutes.

Workaround:
Remove the X2 or SFP from the inactive uplink port.

It is non-service impacting and will stop once the port is active or the
transceiver is removed from the port.

The bug ID provided is Cisco internal, do you have the public bug ID?

The Cisco Bug Toolkit won't show you any details on bug ID CSCth08212, as it automatically redirects you to the superseding bug ID CSCte94616 (which is under non-disclosure).

You can see the original bug info when using the Bug Search Tool (still in beta). It contains the same information as Swati has already posted though.

Hello,

I have same issues on our network on all non Cisco X2 modules starting on nearly the same day (devices have nearly same update). I can't say that it is only cosmetic nature due to the fact that after a lot of these messages happened I registered SPT topology changes. This happened on several of my devices but it is not very often. For our customers it is a two second hit, where services are not available. Our software is on the 15.0 release train so a lot of possibilities to upgrade to higher versions are not given at this time.

Are in the above mentioned Cisco internal Bug (ID CSCth08212/CSCte94616) additional information which can be helpful but are not open to people outside TAC?

I forgot to mention that the message in my case describes a lot of temperature alerts (ranging from -130°C up to 130°C) that are violated and less of alerts belonging to the power.

Hi Folks,

Watch out for %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION Vs SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION.

The first one is printed for the ports that are configured, but not connected/active.

You can avoid such error messages simply shutting down unused ports.

The latter indicates that there is a real threshold violation.

i am getting same

Apr 29 00:04:35.823: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te5/2: Rx power low alarm; Operating value: -26.7 dBm, Threshold value: -18.4 dBm.

but my port is showing

Te5/2 notconnect 1 full auto 10GBase-LR

Please tell me what to do.
