Hi every body!

My book just briefly explains the metro ethernet. I am just wondering if anyone has seen metro ethernet deployment.

The maximum distance that can be covered using gigabit ethernet is 100km.

So in metro ethernet do we distance limitation ?

thanks a lot and have a nice weekend!

Sarah,

With Metro-E, your switch/router connects to a Service Provider switch that is located in a POP nearby.

This Service Provider switch in turns connects to other switches in the Service Provider network that are located in other nearby POPs.

While the distance between switches does face some kind of limitation, a well though out geography layout can service locations that are farther away than 100km.
