Monitoring

We are on Cisco IOS 12.2... and have just configured a monitor session as the below

monitor session 2 source interface fastethernet a/b

monitor session 2 destination interface fastethernet c/d

But this stops all traffic so I am not able t even browse to initiate what I am trying to test.

How else can I configure this.

What I want to do is monitor traffic between these t ports and while doing this monitor internet access.

Type : Local Session

Source Ports :

Both : Faa/b

Destination Ports : Fac/d

Thanks

check if you can RSPAN for this scenario, check out the following link for more information :

the destination port for a span/monitor session cannot participate in regular traffic forwarding as a normal switch port does.

once you enable a port as a destination for a monitor session, it only receives traffic sent to it from the source port. it will not send traffic out the port (except that required for the monitor session), hence you cannot use it to browse the internet or communicate with other devices.

you would have to use a different port that is not a monitor destination port to do your browsing.

please see the following link for more info on session monitoring and the characteristics of a destination port:
