MS150 Deployment

Hi, all,

I'm wondering what would be the best practice for deploying MS150 switches within an environment that already has MS350 switches.

I understand the MS150 switches cannot be stacked with the MS350 switches.

Just trying to come up with a plan. Any help is appreciated!

Correct - you can't stack these models together.

Do the MS150's you've purchased have the fixed 10Gbps uplink switchports? If so, i'd use those to connect to your MS350's if you're deploying them in the same cabinets/locations.

If you can't connect via 10Gbps then simply ether-channel a few 1Gbps ports on your MS150's and connect again to a bundled ether-channel on your MS350's.

I'm making assumptions that you're locating these devices in the same locations and of course have spare switchport capacity.

The model we purchased is the MS150-24MP-4X, which I think has 4 10Gbe SFP+ ports that I can use to connect to the MS350 models.

Yes, your assumption is correct in thinking that these MS150 switches will go in the same rack as the MS350 switches.

Echoing what @DarrenOC said, I'd use the MS350s as the core with servers, internet connection, other switches and may be APs plugged in. If you have MS150-xxMP switches then those are good for APs as well. I'd stack the MS150s with each other if they are in the same location and link them to the MS350 stack with at least two 10Gb connections as an aggregated link / port channel. Also make sure the MS350s have their spanning tree priority set below 32768 before you connect up the MS150s to smooth the process.

Yes, we do plan on getting the CW9176I models for our access points.

Also, found out that the minimum firmware version for the MS150 is 17.1.4. I was told that the Dashboard will give you an error if your network isn't on 17.1.4 firmware.

Thought I'd share the information in case anyone is interested.
