Multicast between VLAN's

Hello all,

I have Panasonic projectors in one subnet and laptops in another subnet. I'm not able to reach the projectors from the laptops via the Panasonic Wireless Manager. I can ping them, but that's it. I'm suspecting some kind of multicast issue. I have the following configured on my router:

interface Vlan300  (Projectors)

description Legacy Network

ip address 172.21.7.1 255.255.224.0

ip helper-address 172.21.0.222

ip pim sparse-dense-mode

interface Vlan11 (laptops)

description Wireless Students

ip address 10.200.11.1 255.255.255.0

ip helper-address 172.21.0.222

ip pim sparse-dense-mode

From what i've read, I don't need an RP. I've attached my config if it helps.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

first question is:

- are you sure that the traffic is routable? Having at least TTL >2?

And by checking your config I´ve seen a 5508 WLC, which brings up the following questions:

- Are your clients wireless clients?

- If wireless, did you enable MC-Routing on the Controller?

regards,

    Dirk

Dirk,

Yes traffic is routable.TTL is greater than 2, however. More like 253.Global Multicast mode is enabled on the controllers.

Bobby

Correction...Multicast messaging isn't enabled on the WLC.

Ok,

what does your MC-Routing-Table look like? (show ip mroute)

So which is the mc-group for the panasonic-stuff?

Is there a Client requesting the group (show ip igmp groups)?

The projectors are on vlan 300. I believe the group is:

(*, 239.1.2.3), 01:03:02/stopped, RP 172.21.7.1, flags: SJC

Incoming interface: Null, RPF nbr 0.0.0.0

  Outgoing interface list:

    Vlan300, Forward/Sparse-Dense, 00:54:11/00:02:13

    Vlan5, Forward/Sparse-Dense, 01:03:02/00:02:52

239.1.2.3 is what is configured on the WLC as the multicast group IP.

Here is show ip igpm groups:
