N5K-C5596UP - running 7.1(4)N1(1)
I recently grabbed a Nexus 5596UP to work with in my home lab to get some hands on with the Nexus platform. I was trying to integrate using the same static routing topology that I've been used to on my 3750G stack but ran into a few problems. I started without the LAN base services license from being installed and this allowed me to configure a few SVI and I thought all was working until I couldn't communicate beyond the switch through the default route. Within the switch I was fine but this lead me to finding that all of my static routes were in a pending state which explains why I wasn't able to hit resources attached to the switch from my default route above, although my device above could hit all of the SVI on the switch.
I assumed this was being caused by the LAN base services license and proceeded to issue an evaluation. The install claimed that layer 3 was now enabled but when I looked at the SVI status, VLAN 1 showed me that "L3 Not Ready". Well, this led me onto the next finding, no layer 3 expansion module. Well, maybe stupid me, but I bought one and now I'm at the point where I have installed the module.
With the switch powered off, I've installed the N55-M160L3-V2 module into module 3 port. Booting up the switch, I've found that the module is detected but is in an offline state. I've installed the LAN base services license and even generated an evaluation for the LAN enterprise services license too. My VLAN 1 now shows me that "Non-routable VDC mode" is the reason for the down state and the routing table is completely empty.
I'm struggling to figure out why layer 3 or even just static routing isn't functioning as it now appears I may not have needed the layer 3 module since just static routing should be working with the LAN base services license. I'm attaching screenshots for several command outputs, I'd really appreciate some education and assistance on this one so I can keep chugging along.
