N7K F2 I/O module, does the packet passes fabric if the ingress and egress interface on the same card?

Hi,

I have a question regarding N7K(7018) F2 module,  if a packet is received from port A, after L2/L3 lookup, the egress port is port B.

Question: Does the packet need to be routed through fabric to the outgoing interface in the following two situations:

1. port A and port B in the same ASIC?

2. port A and port B in the same module, but different ASIC?

Thanks,

bo

Hi,

Have a look at figure C-1 in this document::

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/solutions/Enterprise/Data_Center/MSDC/1.0/MSDC1_C.html

Also,

The Cisco Nexus 7000 F2-Series Module is built with switch-on-chip (SoC) architecture, in which a single ASIC

implements all the module functions: from ingress buffering, to forwarding lookups and access control lists (ACLs)

and quality-of-service (QoS) tables, to fabric interfaces and virtual output queuing (VOQ). Each SoC manages four

front-panel interfaces. This type of design increases performance while lowering the power and cooling

requirements of the module.
