Need help with router selection

Hi,

We have an office network (10.10.x.x) and a manufacturing network (192.168.x.x) and would like to limit access to the manufacturing network to only selected IP addresses that are on the office network.

We have around $1200 to spend and would like to know what Cisco router would be best suited for this.

$1200 is going to limit the choices. Actually, the only choice would be a 1800 Series ISR

Can you explain your topology a bit better ?

What kind of equipment you currently have ?

How these two networks route between each other ?

Are they located in the same building or over the WAN ?

The networks are located in the same building and both are star. The manufacturing network

has around 200 nodes and the office one is probably about the same. Currently the routing is done on a W2K server using 2 NICs.

The W2K machine is scheduled to be replaced with a L3 switch(that is free), but it will not have the capability to perform access control based on IP.

Would we be better of using the L3 switch and adding a firewall (PIX ?) on the manufacturing side to control the access or use one of the 1800 series routers you suggested to handle routing and access control?

Either solution would work. It depends which solution you are most comfortable in terms of managing.
