Hi all,
I have a query regarding an HWIC-2FE module on a Cisco 3845 router.
The show controllers output shows negative counter for InUnicasts and InGoodOctets and I would like to know what it means.
Here is the output of show controllers fa0/0/1:
wc2437-r2-OLD#sh controllers fastEthernet 0/0/1
Interface FastEthernet0/0/1

This is certainly a bug.I believe that CSCtn95356 was opened to address this?

Hi Zizhen,
thanks for your reply.
I had actually opened that bug myself when this issue occured.
Was hoping to get a quick solution from the CSC (from past expereinces of all users) coz the bug may take a lot of time to resolve.
Guess I will have to wait for it to be resolved then.
I have actually recreated this issue in the Cisco Lab and I found that when the counter value goes above 2147483647 (this is the highest 31-bit number), the counter becomes negative ( -2147483647;as soon as it becomes a 32 bit number). The counter value then keeps incrementing towards the positive side, and once it reaches 2147483647 again, it becomes negative again and this process keeps continuing.
Although this does not have any affect on the functioning of the router or of any interface as such, the counter going negative does not make any sense whatsoever. So this is more of an enhancement bug, which needs some looking into.
Regards,
Aniruddha
