Network Design

I need some opinions from some people. I have 30 sites each have a 3550 and are connected with fiber to create a loop. I do not have them setup as routing to a single gateway. They run at layer two VLANS and if I ever need to I will route between VLANS. Is this the wrong approach? Should they all be on their own subnet and route to a gateway to get where they are going?

Basically the design structure would be alot like routers. Every site would be a router with its own default gateway and segment for its own use. Each site in turn will be running a routing process to distribute the information (segment back or over to the other sites).

Lets say vlan 18 for 192.168.18.xx/24 would be site a

192.168.19.xx/24 would be site b and so forth.

Otherwise you are running the whole network on one segment and broadcasting everywhere.

I am working on a similar problem and do not know what to do between the switchs on the trunk link.

Here is my network diagram and proposed next phase of my project. See attached.

I have converted the bottom segment t1 routers and also Olinger location. But am not sure how to handle the current segment between Olinger and Newman.

Any Ideas ??

The drawing looks ok. note that if there are users on the 2950 bendavis switch it is better if they are in an other valn than vlan 17.

also not ethe you worte down an double IP address on the righthand-side of the drawing for vlan 17. first you assign a .5 address to the Olinger switch and then you want to give it the same as the newman (.250)

I do not see the 3550 switches in your drawing were should they be?

I did it this past weekend. With routing enabled on both layer 3 switches it seemed to be better to assign another segment vlan between them especially because of the bendavis device.

Even though I was trunked between newman and Olinger it still did not work until I assigned vlan17 and the 172.16.17.5 to Newman and 172.16.17.250 to Olinger and 172.16.17.9 to Bendavis for management of the bendavis device and route between the two switches.

Why is there another way ?
