Hi I am trying to build a network between my old Headstart Windows XP computer and my new Medion Windows 7 PC: They are connected through a Cisco Linksys E1000 router by cables (not wireless).
In my new Win7 PC I can see both computers in the Network overview (see left part of the picture below). But I cannot access the old XP computer (I did share the harddisk) nor does it appear when I lauch Windows Explorer.
What do I do wrong? I did already unable the firewall of the router, but that does not help.
Thanks in advance for any help.

This is more a Windows problem than a networking problem.
Windows XP and Windows 7 use different levels of encryption by default when it comes to network communications - which makes it difficult to share drives between XP and Windows 7 machines.
Fixing this situation requires modifying the security policies on the Windows 7 machine, and should NOT be attempted unless you are confident with using the Microsoft policy and registry editors.
See this link for sugestions on resolving the issue
Cheers
P.S. I'm assuming you have basic connectivity between the machines - can you PING the XP machine from your Windows 7 machine and vica-versa? If you can't, then you need to get into checking IP configurations etc on the PC's to make sure they match.
