Howdy,
I inherited a stack of 2x 2960s-48lps-l switches. I am trying to add another switch to the stack, so I purchased a 2960s-48ts-l switch and the appropriate FlexStack module after I learned about the process. It looks like the new, unconfigured switch should just dutifully jump in to the existing stack. It hasn't so far.
Here is what I have done:
In all cases, the new switch decides it is its own master in a stack of one, although it curiously assign itself stack member number 3 (the existing stack members are 1 and 2). The port status of the FlexStack modules shows down on all connections between the new switch and the existing stack, and the stacks otherwise give me no clue that they are remotely aware of each other.
In my evaluation, I noted an oddity on the new switch that I think may have some importance (but possibly not)... when I check the licenses, I get this:
Airco-2960-n1#sh license Index 1 Feature: lanlite Period left: 0 minute 0 second Index 2 Feature: lanbase Period left: 0 minute 0 second
If I am not mistaken, one or the other should be licensed, and the one that is definitely licensed to this switch is lanbase. On the stacked switches, this is the result:
Airco-2960#sh license Index 1 Feature: lanlite Period left: 0 minute 0 second Index 2 Feature: lanbase Period left: Life time License Type: Permanent License State: Active, In Use License Priority: Medium License Count: Non-Counted
So, I think these are the questions I should ask:
Did I screw something up, causing the license status to be 0 and 0?
Is there some configuration of which I am unaware on the stack that would prevent the normal behavior of a new switch joining the stack?
Forgive my ignorance... I am usually the one answering forum questions, not asking for help. I will gladly include any additional information you might need in order to help determine the appropriate course of action.
Many thanks!

Hi Derek,
You seem to have done everything right to add this new switch to the stack.
From the output you provided, the only thing I can see is that the new switch does not have the proper license to match the existing ones. The other way to show if you have the correct license installed is by issuing "sh version". This command usually shows the current license and what it will be the next time you reboot the switch.
So can you post "sh ver" from the stack and the new switch?

Derek,
You have a corrupted license on the 2960s-48ts-l. It has lanbase by default. Verify the outputs with
sh lic file
switch(config)#license save flash:lic.xml ---> to check license info for example:
% Storage read success but LicenseInfo failed Invalid file
No license entries in license storage
If so you may need to either opening a TAC to request a rehost of the license or engage your provider assistance.

Just to conclude this thread, I will explain what happened next.
I replaced the firmware in the unit with 15.2(1)E3, which was the previous release, and at that point, everything just worked. It was glorious. As I stated previously, I don't really know what I am doing, so I probably downloaded the wrong firmware previously.
So again, the switch is working in the stack just fine now, and that is just awesome. However, the license still displays this:
Airco-2960#remote command 4 sh lic Switch : 4 : ------------ Index 1 Feature: lanlite Period left: 0 minute 0 second Index 2 Feature: lanbase Period left: 0 minute 0 second
Bah, oh well, as long as it works.
