this is the second time I encountered this with the new 9300's so I wanted to throw it out there. Out of the box, the 9300's don't come with a console cable, if I used the standard RJ45 type and connect from the back - doesn't work.
I found a cisco USB cable and connected from the front and it works fine. configured it and some other equipment.. was about to wrap it up and thought.. let me check the regular rj45 console port .. doesn't work.
I have been searching for anything on this -- using the same SecureCRT emulator - I have a lot of equipment laying around so if I used the same cable and attach to any other cisco gear it works fine - but not on the 9300's. not understanding why neither of the two so far work the standard console way... strange.

Have plenty of 9300's using 16.12.x and the console works fine. Make sure to use a rollover cable (the serial cable, not ethernet), and connect to the console port at the back (next to the management port). 9600 baud rate.

Not sure, we have many installations all working as expected with RJ45 console cable as per below guide :
Just out of interest, can you post what version it shipped with now?

I feel pretty stupid on this, because I have about 20 cables and every known to man cisco device and the setting is the same as any of the others -- 9600/8/1 -- and nothing when on the back. from USB works good.
both in stand alone and in stacked config - doesn't matter just wont work.
super weird indeed.

I have the same problem. I use the exact same cable that I have used with other cisco switched (NEXUS, 6509-E, etc). It will not work on our new 9300. Did you ever find a solution to this?

I am lost my Cisco mini-usb cable.
Can I use generic mini-usb cable?
Because I don't have any problem with generic usbconsole cable in Aruba
