Cisco, I think it would be good to add a new command on routers and switches for the interface connectivity. Description is good for some things, but I think it would be good to add a second command such as "patch-number" or something like that. This would allow you to put a description of the device connected using the description command, while the new command would allow you to include the patch/drop number as well.

The "description" cmd can have strings as large as 300 characters. It is not uncommon for customers to use its content to include service provider, their Tel#, ckt Id, destination and such.
The contents of this cmd are used via SNMP as defined in RFC 1213, a very very old and well established MIB. Adding one more cmd would create problems on the SNMP instrumentation front.
