I am wondering if in a Nexus 5K switch, with 2K FEX attached, if you have devices in the same VLAN on the 2K, when these devices begin communicating, sending traffic to each other, would there be any traffic through the 5K?
Or, would everything be contained between the ports on the 2K?

All traffic would go via the N5K because there is no local switching between ports.

As Jon noted, there is no local communications between 2k ports. If you want/need that feature, you need to look at the 9k series.
